Hi, I’m Dave.
I’m a consultant and writer who has spent more than 20 years working with companies to help define and execute winning customer relationship strategies. I believe in the reciprocal nature of consumer-business relationships — that is, that rather than seeking to extract as much value as possible from each consumer, businesses can thrive and grow more effectively by focusing on delivering value to consumers.
For several years, I worked at Forrester Research where I co-founded and led the Customer Intelligence research team. I was also the Chief Strategy Officer at a marketing technology firm, and have held various strategy and communication roles at brands and agencies. I co-authored Marketing to the Entitled Consumer (Mascot, 2018) which uses research with 7,000 consumers in the U.S. and five European Countries to define today’s entitled consumers, and encourages companies and marketers to take a consumer-first approach to building relationships.
I enjoy asking and helping to answer difficult questions. My ideas and research have been featured in media outlets ranging from the New York Times and the Economist to Ad Age and 1to1 Magazine. And, back when video conferencing wasn’t nearly as prevalent, I once participated in a Skype interview on CNN’s The Situation Room. I enjoy speaking with teams in boardrooms and crowds in auditoriums to share my ideas and help pave the way for meaningful change.
I grew up in Dublin, Ireland and now live in Palm Beach, FL with my wife and two kids. I am a graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway (formerly UCG), Trinity College Dublin, and the University of Stirling. I am a scoutmaster for my son’s Troop and board vice president of the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches.
